In My Grandfather’s Shadow: Working Through Germany’s post-WW2 Legacy

Presentation at Cheltenham German Club, 18th Oct 2024 at 19:00, Angela Findlay, Author, Trustee of The Dresden Trust

In this talk, Angela Findlay explores what it means to be the granddaughter of a German Wehrmacht general and the importance of acknowledging the impact such a past can have both on a family and a national level.

Carefully breaking the silence surrounding so many of World War Two’s perpetrators, she challenges widespread binary narratives and shows how the arts have been used to process, heal and learn the urgent lessons of history.

Angela Findlay is an Anglo-German artist, author, public speaker. Her first book, In My Grandfather’s Shadow, was published by Penguin Transworld in July 2022.

Copies of Angela Findlay's book will be available for sale on the evening.
